Bernie Sanders must be stopped!

By Rainer Rupp.

Already after the first rounds in the competition of the “Democratic Party” presidential candidates, US Senator Bernie Sanders is in the lead. In the meantime, all other competitors have either given up or, according to almost daily poll results, are far behind the 78-year-old Sanders. In contrast, the Democratic Party establishment’s candidate, former Barack Obama Vice President Joe Biden, is hopelessly behind in terms of voter favor and the collection of election donations.

Also the chances of Pete Buttigieg, obviously the darling of America’s richest men and women, are not promising at all. According to the financial magazine Forbes (1), no less than forty of America’s richest billionaires support Buttigieg, who until recently was the mayor of South Bend, an equally unknown town in the state of Indiana City. Buttigieg receives particularly strong support from the fierce US Zionist Seth Klarman, who made his countless billions with financial speculation as founder of various hedge funds.

According to the investigative journalist Max Blumenthal, the so-called “Israeli settlers” in the occupied territories of Palestine, who are nothing more than unscrupulous land robbers, have been virtually inundated with money (2) by Klarman for years. At home in the USA, Klarman is also known for being one of the largest donors to the CIA memorial foundation.

Klarman is also the owner of the radical right-wing Israeli newspaper “Times of Israel”, which once published an appeal for Palestinian genocide. Yochanan Gordon’s opinion article entitled “When Genocide is Permissible” was later deleted from the newspaper’s website due to many protests.

However, the unspeakable call for genocide can be read via this link (3) on the website of “Mondoweiss”, which is run by a well-known Jewish-American critic of the Zionists. The reading is especially recommended to all those who immediately cry out “anti-Semitism” at the slightest criticism of the Israeli government and its policy of oppression and land grab. For this genocide appeal in the “Times of Israel” gives an insight into the murderous racist mentality of these people that is rampant in Israel.

How billionaire Klarman and Co. want to bring their inexperienced and therefore particularly flexible presidential candidate Buttigieg to power by all means has already been shown in the very first primary election of the Democratic Party in the US state of Iowa. We remember that the German news reported that even 12 hours after the end of the vote in Iowa the results were still not known. The delay in counting the votes was the result of a faulty software of a new automated voter app, which had been developed by a company with the appropriate name “Shadow Inc.”.

This delay successfully prevented Senator Bernie Sanders, who – as it later turned out – was the winner of the first round of the Democratic presidential primary, from holding his victory speech, which – as is customary in such cases – would have been broadcast at prime time in all US states. Instead, Buttigieg – rashly and wrongly – but all the more impudently proclaimed himself the winner.

Interestingly, it later turned out that the “Shadow Inc.”, which had delivered the allegedly “faulty” software to the Democratic Party’s election committee, belonged to hedge fund billionaire Seth Klarman. And the executive positions of “Shadow Inc.” were all filled with former employees of the election campaigns of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

In contrast to the Republican Party, there has been a change at the grassroots level of the Democratic Party in its previous unconditional support for Israel’s shameful war and occupation policies, which will make it more difficult for the Klarman-type Zionist U.S. billionaires to make pro-Israel candidate Buttigieg president.

In the past, 37-year-old Mayor Buttigieg has always described Israel as a role model for the US in dealing with security problems. He has not blamed the Israeli occupation policy for the suffering of the Palestinians, but always only the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas. He has emphatically rejected criticism or condemnation of Israel by progressive members of Congress. As a result, the Democratic Party establishment has from the outset looked favourably on Buttigieg as the party’s bearer of hope and rising star. However, his strong pro-Israeli views have brought him into conflict with the increasingly pro-Palestinian left flank in his own party.

However, due to grassroots pressure, the “Israel first” candidates have little chance with the democratic electorate this time.

Anti-Zionist but Jewish-led groups that are close to or part of the Democratic Party have succeeded in recent years in building up sufficient public pressure as defenders of the human rights of the Palestinians that this year almost all democratic presidential candidates will not accept the invitation to the big AIPAC conference. In the past, it had been an absolute must for every candidate to make a commitment of unconditional support for the rogue state of Israel at the conference of the Zionist lobby of the AIPAC. The organization with over 100,000 members is considered the most influential pro-Israeli lobby group in the USA, and it has always been important not to antagonize AIPAC in the election campaign. But the situation seems to have changed.

Organizations like MoveOn, Indivisible, the “Working Families Party” and “IfNotNow” with their joint campaign called “No to AIPAC” have even convinced the very pro-Zionist candidate Buttigieg that it is better for election chances not to go to AIPAC this time.

“This is a watershed moment and a major victory against the bigotry that AIPAC has legitimized for decades,” said IfNotNow co-founder Dani Moscovitch (4). “Even moderates in the Democratic Party are now refusing to attend a conference by a right-wing lobby that allies with bigots just to shield the Israeli government from any consequences for denying the Palestinian people freedom and dignity.”

But the Zionist lobby, which has large parts of the US establishment behind it, does not give up so easily its fight against the Democratic candidate with the most chances against Donald Trump, who disparages him as “Crazy Bernie”, to win in the fall. In the most recent primary election in the state of Nevada, which were more significant than the previous ones, the liberal senator emerged as the winner, at a clear distance (5) from his inner-party competition.
Sanders describes himself as a “democratic socialist”, which is most comparable to the German social democracy. He rants vociferously against social injustice and the “1% of the financial elite”. In fact, his positions are social democratic tamely. Yet he is now portrayed by the US establishment as a bogeyman, or even worse as a communist and a threat to the American way of life. To make things worse, Sanders, who himself comes from an American Jewish family, has once again taken up arms with the main Zionist lobby group AIPAC.

In a tweet last Sunday, the senator had announced that he would not participate in the AIPAC conference this year either, which begins next Sunday. Sanders justified his refusal by saying that AIPAC offers a platform to all those who speak out against “fundamental rights of the Palestinians”. Sanders wrote literally (6):

“The Israeli people have the right to live in peace and security. So do the Palestinian people. I remain concerned about the platform AIPAC provides for leaders who express bigotry and oppose basic Palestinian rights. For that reason, I will not attend their conference.”

Sanders obviously referred to the Israeli government under Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he had repeatedly criticized in the past.

“As President,” Sanders said in another Tweet (7), “I will support the rights of both Israelis and Palestinians and do everything possible to bring peace and security to the region.”

But the Zionist lobby has not been inactive either. In recent months, Bernie Sanders has become the target of increased Hasbara attacks by fanatical supporters of the Israeli apartheid government. Although Sanders himself is Jewish, they accuse him of anti-Semitism. Similar to Britain, where the anti-Semitism club was used with great success against Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, this accusation is now also intended to destroy Sanders’ chances of winning the election. Just like Corbyn, Sanders has taken a firm stand in favour of the human rights of all people living in Palestine and has consistently condemned the crimes of the Israeli occupying regime.

For example, Sanders has now also denounced the targeted murder of unarmed Palestinian demonstrators (8) and children without any trivialisation or glossing over. He has repeatedly called for an end to the occupation of the Gaza Strip in order to put an end to the humanitarian catastrophe there. He has stated that, as President, he would make US military aid to Israel conditional as a result of the continuing illegal settlement policy and the disregard for Palestinian human rights (9). And he has called Netanyahu a racist 10).

Interestingly enough, the Jew Sanders – at least if one takes the official German definition of anti-Semitism as a yardstick – himself becomes an “anti-Semite” with such statements. So it doesn’t help when Sanders says that he is proud to be Jewish and that he lived on an Israeli kibbutz as a young man and that he never questioned Israel’s existence.

By the way, even in Germany, Jews – regardless of whether they have a German or Israeli passport – are treated as anti-Semites because of their criticism of the criminal policies of the Israeli government, and are therefore banned from speaking at planned public events more often than not by German offices and universities. This could also be something that Sanders could experience during a visit to Germany.
In his speeches, Sanders also made it clear that he prefers a two-state solution for Palestine and Israel to end the conflict. And from the US government he demands above all a “balanced” policy with regard to Israel and Palestine. No promising US presidential candidate has ever gone as far as Sanders has in his election campaign. And that is why the US Zionist “Mafia” is now also doing everything it can to stop Sanders at all costs before the increasing criticism of Israel, which can indeed be observed, spreads further among members of Congress belonging to the “Democrats”.

Therefore, a new group was founded a few weeks ago in the Democratic Party under the promising name: “Democrats against antisemitism”. At the same time, a wave of articles was launched in the US mainstream media in order to start the discourse against Sanders, with the core message that the highest ranking Jewish politician who ever ran for the office of US president is an anti-Semite.

This group has joined forces with, among others, Bari Weiss, the influential opinion editor of the New York Times, to denigrate Sanders. “They evidently aim to “Corbyn-ize” him, by parroting smears used effectively against the UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.” the US website of Mondo Weiss said. (11)

The basic tenor of the accusations against Sanders is that although he is ethnically considered Jewish, his rhetoric, voting behaviour in the US Congress and his environment do not reflect the values of a friend of the Jewish people.

However, if Sanders were to behave like his colleagues in the US Congress – or even in the German Bundestag – namely to defend unconditionally the Israeli policy of continuous and terrible human rights violations or to downplay it, then Sanders would certainly reflect the “values of a friend of the Jewish people” in the sense of his Zionist critics, and no one would call him an anti-Semite.
